The Volunteer Opportunities listed below are ways for you, as members, to both help JGS Toronto and increase your involvement with the Society:
Cemetery Project: Photograph headstones, translate inscriptions in order to update our database for JewishGen’s Jewish Online Worldwide Burial Registry (JOWBR). Both fieldwork and computer work are available.
Index Back issues of Shem Tov for website: by title, author and subject
MEMPLAQS Project:Translate shul yahrzeit plaques from Hebrew to English and assist with data entry so that the plaque data to be sent to JewishGen’s Memorial Plaques online database
Photographer: Take photographs at meetings and events for publication in Shem Tov and on the website
Publicity: Work with the Publicity Chair to help to expand and enhance our Society’s profile within the larger community and to publicize our programmes
Programming: Work with Programme Committee to plan events for our Society
Speakers Bureau: Share your love of genealogy and experience with community groups by speaking about your genealogical experiences
Tributes and Sponsorships: Encourage people to donate to JGS Toronto through various creative means
Website: Join website committee, especially for those with experience in website development or design
Writing: Write articles for Shem Tov and/or website, including summaries of JGS Toronto programmes
Membership Database: Work with Neil Richler to maintain our membership records
